The NEW ABC UK team, awarded by the Open University for their “Outstanding Open Research”
The Open University has awarded the work done by the NEW ABC UK team in their Research Excellence Awards, which recognises outstanding research and celebrates some of the collaboration, knowledge exchange and achievement within the OU research sphere.
This year, in the category of Outstanding Open Research, “Professor Sarah Crafter and Dr Nelli Stavropoulou won the award for their work, which seeks to help children and young people from migration and refugee backgrounds feel more included in education. The NEW ABC Project is all about participation and co-creation in education, with project team members working with young people and children that are often found in vulnerable situations and many times silenced or unheard”, as they stated on the website where winners are proclaimed.
The researchers expressed their delight at the award: “It is such an important recognition to win this award, because at the heart of the NEW ABC project lies our commitment to working collaboratively- particularly with groups of children and young people who may experience precarious situations and whose voices and opinions may be silenced or excluded. We are delighted to be able to co-create with them resources, learn from them, and to share that knowledge with new audiences. A big thank you to the children, young people, schools and families that made this project possible.“
