“Three Little Pigs” tale in all the languages spoken by the school children
Promoted by the NEW ABC partner UAB, who is conducting the repiloting of the “Teacher Training and Family Involvement in Pluralistic Approaches to Language Education” pilot action, a group of linguistically diverse parents at a School in Catalonia (Spain) were invited to translate the tale of the “Three Little Pigs” into their home languages. The aim of this action was to produce a plurilingual tale for the school where the repilot was carried, to be read during the “Family Activity Day”. Altogether, the book included twelve languages: Catalan, Moldavian, Russian, Urdu, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Twi, Swahili, Guaraní and English. Some inspirational moments included mothers and fathers helping each other to translate and adapt the original story and looking for concepts and words that did not exist in their home languages. They also used this opportunity to share advice on how to help their children in learning and maintaining their heritage languages.
