An exceptional co-creation week
The NEW ABC partners at the University of Jyväskylä have had a wonderful week behind. On Tuesday and Wednesday 21-22 March 2023, they had a photography and video workshop organized within the NEW ABC pilot International migrations & (im)mobilities: offline/online practices, identities, agency and voice of youth within temporary reception centres. It was an exceptionally successful workshop, where youngsters enjoyed taking beautiful photos in the city park ‘Harju’ winter sceneries, making videos, acting and editing, facilitated by Harith Raad Salih. On Thursday they continued with Aurinkopaja Open Doors and the final event of the NEW ABC co-creation workshop. Youngsters had an opportunity to try out various activities organized by Nuorten Taidetyöpaja, and they enjoyed the rest of the day by celebrating one of the participants’ birthdays, testing traditional Ukrainian Napoleon cake and having pizza in the city. The University of Jyväskylä team is really grateful for this week and the youngsters’ engagement. Good feelings and memories will stay with them for a long time!
Some of the youngsters visited some of the places for the first time. During the City walk, we had many meaningful discussions on living in Finland, sharing our experiences, memories and stories including stories of the first photo taken by us in Finland. The session continued the next day with gathering material for the videos. This all was accompanied by learning about taking professional photos and making professional videos, learning about us as persons and each other. “We got really inspired by this learning experience and we are all motivated to continue with the photography and video project – finalizing the editing of already gathered material and organizing the other photography and video workshop in autumn 2023. We are really looking forward to these forthcoming learning moments”.
